2023 Spring Bloom Prediction Map Released
- Spring flowers begin blooming in most parts of the country around mid-March, with peak blooming nationwide in mid-April
The Korea Forest Service (KFS) announced on March 3 the 2023 spring flowering prediction map for major forests in Korea to help people prepare to go out as the cold snap begins and we enter the threshold of spring.
□ The spring flower prediction map was released for trees and forsythia that are native to forests such as rhododendrons and cherry trees, which are distributed throughout Korea and are the first to deliver spring news.
ㅇ This spring flowering prediction was jointly conducted by the Korea Forest Service's National Arboretum and the National Academy of Forestry Sciences and nine regional public arboretums, covering 15 forest areas and nine national and public arboretums by region.

□ This year's spring flowers will bloom somewhat differently depending on the region and tree species, starting with azaleas, followed by forsythia and cherry trees.
Forsythia is expected to bloom in the southern region and Jeju Island, including Wando Arboretum on March 20, Gyeongnam Arboretum on March 23, and Halla Arboretum on March 23.
ㅇ Rhododendrons are expected to bloom in May in the Hwaeak Mountain region of Gangwon Province and Sobaek Mountain region of Chungcheongbuk-do, starting on March 13 in Jeju, with significant regional differences.
ㅇ In addition, cherry trees are predicted to bloom somewhat later, on April 1 in Jeju and April 30 in Gwangdeoksan, Gangwon Province.
□ Kim Ki-hyun, head of the Forest Environment Protection Division of the Korea Forest Service, said, "The Forest Service plans to further improve the accuracy of the forest area flowering prediction model based on field data and mountain weather data observed mainly on representative tree species in Korea's forests, and continue to provide useful services for people's lives, such as spring flowering."
